ATEŞ, Süleyman

Annotator and writer of interpretation (b. 1933, Elazığ). He attended courses on the art of reading the Holy Koran aloud and interpretation and took courses on Arabic from Muharrem Sırrı Efendi, one of the scholars of Elazığ. In 1960, he graduated from İmam Hatip High School and classical high school and entered Ankara University, Faculty of Theology. In 1965 he began to work as an assistant at the Chair of Interpretation at the same faculty. After completing his doctorate studies, he went to Iraq to conduct scientific research in 1973. In 1973, he became an associate professor.

In 1976, he was appointed the President of Religious Affairs and became a professor. He gave lectures at universities at home and abroad. He is currently the head of the Department of Interpretation and Hadis* at the Faculty of Theology at On Dokuz Mayıs University. He has published several works of study and research in his field. He is famous for his interpretation of the Holy Koran. He collected the Writers Union of Türkiye Study Award in 1994 with his book titled Gerçek Din Bu (This is the Genuine Religion).
