Political scientist, journalist and writer (b. 18 April 1944, Ayvalık / Balıkesir). He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences (1967). He received his doctorate degree on political sciences at Stockholm University in Sweden (1981). He worked as a researcher at Ankara University, Faculty of Education (1968-71) and at Stockholm University, Department of Political Science (1972-81). After he returned to Turkey, he worked as an editor and columnist on the newspapers Cumhuriyet (1982-92), Sabah (1993-94) and Milliyet (1994-2001). During these years, he gave lectures at Anadolu and Boğaziçi University in Turkey and at Princeton University in United States.
He has been an academician at Bahçeşehir University, Department of Political Sciences and International Relations since April 2001. He presented the weekly interview program Entellektüel Bakış for CNN-Türk television channel between 1999 and 2002 and has been a columnist at the newspaper Zaman since November 2002.
