Researcher and writer (b. 1925, Çorlu / Tekirdağ). He attended the İstanbul Haydarpaşa High School (1943), and graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1947), and from Tahran University, Department of Faculty of Literature (1951). He served as an officer in the Office of Prime Minister General Directorate of Archive (1953) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1954-56). Beginning in 1956, he worked as an academician in the universities with different posts such as assistant of Islamic history at Ankara University, Theology Faculty (1956-59), and as an assistant of Old Turkish Literature in the İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature (1959-63). In 1968, he became assistant professor and professor in 1980 and continued to work at the same department with these titles (1989).

He worked as a Turkish and Turkish Literature assistant professor and gave lectures in the London (1963-66) and Chicago (1967-68) universities. His articles were published in the Türkiyat Mecmuası, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı ve Boğaziçi Üniversitesi (1975-76) reviews.
