ALİ REŞAT

Historian (b. 1877, Lofça – d. 1929, İstanbul). He graduated from İstanbul High School and the School of Politics (1897). He gave history lessons at Mercan and İstanbul high schools and the İstanbul School of Teacher Training (1908-1913). After his office of the Undersecretary for Education and his membership of the Translation Council, he gave history courses at the Faculty of Literature. He worked as an inspector of education, which was his last post.

His articles were published in newspapers such as İkdam, Saadet, Sabah and Tasvir and he was one of the famous historians of the last century. He also wrote a series of history textbooks that he prepared for primary, elementary and high schools.

Baban, 1909), Devlet-i Osmaniye Nokta-i Nazarından Tarih-i Osmanî (Ottoman History from the Aspect of the Ottoman State) (1911), Türkiye ve Tanzimat (Türkiye and the Tanzimat*, 1912), Musavver Dairetü-l Maarif (Institutions of Education-Illustrated, 1914).

He also translated from western languages.
