What Is Left Behind

WHAT IS LEFT BEHIND

No key
Under the threshold
They must have gone far away
With no intention to return
Can't tell if the
Shutters
Are open or closed
The wall overgrown with rose vines
On the back porch
The straw chairs
Keep crackling
A newspaper has slid under one
From three days ago
Was it forgotten that day
Or did they leave
Much earlier
Why do they leave without giving notice
Neither a friendly house any more
Nor a friendly garden
Where the pine trees no longer grow
Thunder shatters
The sky
