Halil Akdeniz

Halil Akdeniz (1944 - )

Akdeniz is a painter contributing to universalism not only with the problematic, but also with the realistic aspects of his paintings. This is partly due to where he lives, but is primarily the result of his integration with universal sensitivity. The different elements in Akdeniz’s paintings are inspired by the untouched resources of the adventure that painting symbolises as a whole, and he reproduces them to end in the subconscious.

In his paintings, the concepts of past-future, East-West and Old-New are swept away, and the painting is recomposed in a combination of space and time. Mind and feelings, coincidence and conscious, concepts and facts combine and intersect. Both past and future are questioned in his paintings.
Akdeniz has been painting since 1960s. He has gone through all the stages of universal painting reality, but formed his own freedom and individuality in line with cultural transitions. For this reason, he is a pluralist rather than an individualist, and an embracer rather than an excluder.

While the elements in his paintings force the limits of his materials at times, they also challenge the conceptualism before them. In this way, he considers the infrastructure of the painting and the variables of visual and perceived aspects, eventually drawing the painting towards the intellectual domain. Akdeniz’s paintings self-reproduce as a concrete projection of the universal adventure and destiny of man, the point of non-existence and infinity.
