Ali Hadi Bara

Ali Hadi Bara (1906-1971)

Bara was born on September 9 1906, Tehran. He registered at the Sanay-i Mektebi Alisi in 1923, but opted out a month later. He became an official on the railways operated by the French. After working there for three years, he passed the necessary exams and re-registered at the academy. He won a European scholarship in 1927 and went to Paris. Bara took private lessons from Julian de Bouchard, and then from Despiau who was very well-known at the time. He came back to Türkiye in 1930. After working as a library official for some time, he started to teach sculpture in 1932.

The artist concentrated on nature and representative art until his trip to Paris. However, he was very impressed by the non-figurative art he saw in Europe, and produced no further representative works after his return to Türkiye. The artist resumed working at the academy in 1950 and died in 1971.
