Painting and Sculpture Museums

The first Art and Sculpture Museums where the products of the plastic arts were displayed, goes back about 200 years, which was protected and opened at the Heir's Quarters of the Dolmabahçe Palace in 1937, upon a directive from Atatürk.

There are 3 Art and Sculpture Museums within the organizational structure of the Ministry of Culture, connected to the General Directorate of Fine Arts. The Art and Sculpture Museums located outside Ankara carry out their activities under the patronage of the Provincial Cultural Directorates of their particular city.

In the Art and Sculpture Museums the most significant collections of Türkiye containing the most precious samples of Turkish plastic arts in Western tradition from its beginning up to present are documented, protected and presented to the art lovers and the researchers through exhibitions and displays and great effort is shown to transfer them intact to the coming generations.

Besides the permanent exhibitions, plastic arts exhibitions containing the works of national and foreign artists are arranged in the galleries of the Museums, and expanded education is achieved through art related conferences, panels, film and slide shows as well as workshops and course activities. In these establishments of art, each year courses in the field of plastic arts are organized during the September 1 - June 30 period, and preparatory courses for enterance to Fine Arts Faculties are also available.

Art and Sculpture Museums are open to public during business hours everday except Mondays.
