XVIIIth CENTURY FOUNTAINS (2nd page)

 

Saliha Sultan Fountain and Sebil
Founder : Saliha Valide Sultan, wife of Mustafa II and mother of Mahmud I.
Date :1145 AH / 1732
Location : Behind Sokullu Mehmed Paşa Mosque in Çeşme Meydan, in Azapkapı.
Type : Freestanding fountain with sebil.

 

Ayrılık Fountain (Ahmet Ağa Fountain)
Founder : Originally built in Gazanfer Ağa in the XVIII th century. Repaired by Ahmet Ağa (head porter to Mahmud I) in 1741. A second inscription records repairs carried out by Dürriye Sultan in 1921.
Date :1154 AH / 1741
Location : At the corner of Ayrılık Çeşme Sokağı and the road linking Haydarpaşa Çayırı Sokağı to the İbrahimağa Acıbadem road.
Type : Menzil fountain for travellers incorporating namazgâh. .

 

İshak Ağa Fountain / On Çeşme (Ten Fountain)
Founder : Originally built by Behruz Ağa, hasodabaşı (master of the chamber) to Süleyman the Magnificent. Repaired on the orders of Mahmud I by İshak Ağa, customs superintendent of Istanbul, whose name is recorded in the inscription.
Date :1159 AH / 1746
Location : In İskele Meydan in Beykoz.
Type : Single face freestanding fountain with storage tank.

 

Mustafa Han (III) Fountain
Founder : Sultan Mustafa III
Date :1174 AH / 1760
Location : At the corner of the courtyard wall of Ayazma Mosque, on the corner of Ressam Ali Rıza Bey Sokağı and Mehmed Paşa Değirmen Sokağı in Üsküdar.
Type : Single face corner fountain.

 

 

 

Mahmud Han (I) Fountain - Kandilli
Founder : Sultan Mahmud I
Date :1165 AH / 1751
Location : At the top of İskele Caddesi opposite İskele Meydan in Kandilli.
Type : Two face freestanding fountain.

 

 


Abdülhamit Han (I) Sebil and Fountains

Founder : Abdülhamid Han I.
Date :1191 AH / 1777
Location : Originally opposite Hamidiye Imaret and School, where now Vakıf Han IV stands, in Bahçekapı but later moved to the corner of Zeyneb Sultan Mosque.
Type : Single face wall fountain with two sebils.
