NASRATTINOĞLU, İrfan Ünver

Folklorist (b. 18 December 1937, Afyonkarahisar). He is a graduate of Air Officer Training School (1955). After 20 years of actual service in the Air Force, he began to work on several newspapers in 1976. Later on he concentrated on research into folklore and worked for organizations related to this field.

His first article was published in the newspaper Türkeli in 1954 (Afyonkarahisar). In the following years his articles appeared in the newspapers Türkeli, Afyon, Zafer, Mücadele (Diyarbakır), Anadolu, Güney, Orta Doğu and in the reviews Türk Folklor Araştırmaları, Sivas Folklor, Türk Folkloru, Erciyes, Hisar, Ilgaz, Gülpınar, Size, Güneyde Kültür, İçel Kültürü, Ses and Yeni Defne. He has collected many awards in Türkiye and abroad, due to his services related to folklore research. Besides these awards, he has been acknowledged by the State University in Azerbaijan on behalf of Mehmet Emin Resulzade and by the Komrat State University in Moldova with a Double Honorary Doctorate Merit and an honorary professorship (1999). He has been the chairman of the Folklore Research Center since 1981 and a member of various foundations such as the Professional Association of Scientific and Literary Work Owners of Türkiye and the Writers Union of Türkiye.
